Hair removal is an essential part of our beauty regimes. From waxing to shaving to using epilators and hair-removal creams–we women leave no stone unturned to flaunt those flawless-looking legs and arms in skirts and sleeveless tops.
However, with hair removal comes a lot of pain. We're not just talking about the pain from the waxing strips pulling out your hair. We're talking about the unwanted ingrown hair that tend to develop on your skin afterwards.
Not only can they make your skin feel rough and coarse, but can also leave spots.
"Ingrown hair is the result of shaving or hair removal, especially on the legs, arms, and underarms. The new hair sprouting from the hair follicle after the old one is pulled out tends to curl inwards and enter the skin again as it starts growing inwards," explains Shahnaz Husain, founder, chairperson & managing director of The Shahnaz Husain Group, India.

With dead skin covering these in-grown hair, our case becomes even worse as this cover makes it difficult to remove the trapped hair during the next waxing session.
That's not it. Hussain warns:
Sometimes, the area under the skin can get infected, causing inflammation, pain, and eruptions too.
So, before it gets any worse, how about using some home remedies to get rid of them? Check out nine easy-breezy ones recommended by Hussain:
1. Ice pack
After waxing, wrap ice cubes in a clean cloth and apply it on the waxed area for a few seconds at a time. This helps to close the pores and prevent ingrowns.
2. Warm compress
Dip a soft towel in hot water, wring it out, and apply it on the waxed area. Repeat this a few times as doing so can soften the hair and bring it closer to the skin surface, where it can be seen.
3. Rice powder scrub
Mix rice powder with curd and add a pinch of turmeric to this mixture. This makes for an excellent exfoliator and scrubbing it on your body can remove cellular build-up (dead skin cells) and thus, loosen the ingrown hair.
4. Almond scrub
Mixing ground almonds in curd can also help you achieve smooth skin minus the ingrown hair by removing the dead skin cells covering them up.
5. Salt and almond oil
Add a teaspoon of salt to a tablespoon of almond oil and your easy-breezy scrub is all set to work its magic.
6. Sugar paste
Take 2 tablespoons of sunflower oil and 3 tablespoon granulated sugar. Mix together till it becomes a paste. Rub this on the affected area, leave it on for 15 minutes and then, simply rinse it off with warm water.
7. Citrus peel scrub
Grind some dry orange and lemon peels together and mix the powder obtained with oatmeal ground almonds, olive oil, and rose water. Rub gently on the skin in circular motions and wash off with water.

8. Put oats on the job
Oats works wonders on the skin. Egg white, honey, and curd can be added to oats and applied on the skin, and washed off after half an hour. This can help cleanse and soften the skin and remove the in-grown hair. If you have dry skin, add honey, milk, and a little almond oil to this mixture for deep nourishment.
