How To Get Concrete Powder In Minecraft

Concrete is a durable and colourful material that can give any Minecraft creation a fabulous look. It is available in a range of colours and does not explode into flame-like wool. Concrete blocks also have a slightly higher hardness than Stone, but that comes at the sacrifice of lower blast resistance.

There are some things worth noting before we dive into the process of making concrete. It should only be mined with a pickaxe or else the block will be lost. The fundamental block of concrete powder has the same integrated physics as sand and gravel, its building blocks, which means that it will follow gravity and fall. In contrast, hardened concrete will follow the physics of most other blocks and maintain its position regardless of the blocks being present underneath it.

Items you need to Make Concrete:

Required materials you need in order to make concrete are:

  1. 4 blocks of gravel
  2. 4 blocks of gravel
  3. A dye of your choice
  4. Water source

Gravel:

It can be found on beaches, near small water pools, ponds in gravelly mountain biomes covering much of the surface, and underwater covering the bottom of cold, frozen ocean biomes. It can be harvested with any tool, but a shovel is optimal since it can accomplish the same more efficiently than others. For making 8 concrete powder blocks, only 4 gravel blocks are required so it won't be much of a hassle.

Sand:

Similarly, sand blocks, another essential in concrete construction, should be mined with a shovel. These blocks can be found in desert biomes and next to bodies of water like lakes, rivers, and beaches. You need 4 of these too in making concrete.

Dye:

You need to know what colour you desire your concrete to be before we can begin crafting it. In Minecraft, concrete can be any of the sixteen possible dye options: red, orange, yellow, green, lime, cyan, light blue, blue, purple, magenta, pink, brown, black, grey, white, or light grey. It is possible to acquire these various dyes by crafting, smelting, or selling. There is no single method of crafting a dye, as each dye has its recipe.

An example can be the green dye, which we have covered in this guide.

Below is a chart, displaying the source from which each dye can be obtained.

Water source:

The concrete powder made can be solidified when exposed to all water sources except the rain, cauldrons or water bottles.

How to make Concrete in Minecraft?

In a Nutshell:

To make concrete, players will need to make concrete powder first. Place a dye of your choice in the first box of the crafting grid, then fill the last row and third box of the second row with gravel, and finally the rest of the grid with sand to make concrete powder blocks. Bringing these concrete powder blocks in contact with a water source will give you hardened concrete.

Step-by-Step Guide(with Pictures):

Here is the step-by-step pictorial guide you need to follow to make concrete in Minecraft:

Step-1 Open the crafting table

First, open your crafting table so that you have the 3x3 crafting grid similar to the picture below:

Open the crafting table

Step-2 Place the gravel

These act as one of the two primary building blocks of concrete powder. 4 blocks of gravel have to be placed in the pattern shown below. 3 blocks should fill the last column, and the one remaining should be placed in the last cell of the middle row.

Step-3 Place sand:

Like gravel place the sand; however, the placement of sand isn't symmetrical to gravel so make sure that you're following the picture below block by block. 2 blocks should complete the middle row where one gravel already exists, which means the first two cells will be populated by sand. The other 2 blocks are to be placed on the 2nd and 3rd cell of the first row.

Step-4 Place the dye

Once you finish placing the sand and gravel, one cell in the crafting grid is left empty. This will be the position of any dye of your choice to be placed. Once you do so, a stack of 8 concrete blocks should appear on your screen.

Step-5 Drag the concrete powder into your inventory

As mentioned earlier, following this recipe will produce a concrete powder block. Turning the powder into concrete is rather easy. All you have to do is simply place the Concrete Powder next to a water source and it will turn into hardened Concrete! The image below shows a player holding a concrete block and immediately after placing it near the water, it turns into solid concrete. The block transforms from grainy to a smoother, and brighter appearance.

Step-6 Mine the concrete

This is the final step in the processes of successfully constructing concrete. Since you have the concrete block already in front of you, the only thing left is mining it. As mentioned earlier it can only be mined with a pickaxe.

Mine the concrete

Give Command for Concrete

Given that the concrete block has several colour variants, there isn't a standard give the command for concrete per se. However, the given command follows the same format for each colour. The format is as follow:

/give @p colour_concrete_powder 1

Note that the colour mentioned in the command is a placeholder, which means that you should replace it with the colour of concrete you wish to make. For example, to make a green concrete block the command would look like this:

/give @p orange_concrete_powder 1

Conclusion

Congratulations. Not only did you learn how to craft concrete, but also how to make different types of it. That deserves a pat on the back. For decoration purposes, the vivid and strong colours of concrete make it worthwhile. As a construction material, its blast resistance is considerably lower; but, its hardiness is marginally higher than that of stone.
